Βαθύ κίτρινο χρώμα. Ώριμα και έντονα αρώματα τριαντάφυλλου που παραπέμπουν σε Μοσχάτο. Συνύπαρξη από ώριμα φρούτα και άλλα που θυμίζουν ευγενή σήψη, σιρόπια και ελάχιστη βανίλια. Στόμα με πάχος, μετρημένη γλύκα και οξύτητα που είναι μόλις αρκετή για να το ισορροπήσει. Εξαιρετικά μεγάλη διάρκεια, με την οξύτητα εδώ να μην αφήνει τα σάκχαρα να το κάνουν βαρύ και γλυκερό.

Ktima Kir-Yianni, Yianakahori Hills 2013:  Totally incomprehensible name and a bit too acidic as an aperitif, at least on first opening, but after an hour’s breathing was super with a burger and, I imagine, would be equally companionable with lamb.

Rose “Akakies”, Kir Yianni (Amyndeon, Greece): Brilliant strawberry pink. (If there was lipstick this color, I’d wear it.) The wine is rich and spicy with a round middle palate and the dynamic energy of firm acidity, not for the faint of palate. Enjoyed with sausages and grilled seafood.

Ktima Kir-Yianni: Hur som helst, kan vi behöva ett värmande och inbjudande rött vin vare sig det vankas grillning i solen eller inomhusmiddag vid en varm brasa. Ett vin från Grekland fixar det! En billig enkelbiljett, som förlänger sommaren och kanske får dig att minnas årets semester på en grekisk ö.

Mitt tips heter Ktima och kommer från vinfirman Kir-Yanni som ligger i Makedonien i norra Grekland. Här har inhemska druvsorten xinomavro stor betydelse. En blå druva med rejäla tanniner, hög syra och frisk mörk frukt. Den har fått sällskap av syrah och merlot, som bidrar mer lite rondör. Det är ett personligt vin där ceder och örtiga inslag möter syrliga körbär och torkade jordgubbar. Ett givet val till grillat kött eller souvlaki med en rejäl sallad på fetost och tzatziki så klart.

Northern Greece borders Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Turkey, and houses the peaks of Mount Olympus, the famous home of ancient gods. Wines from this region have a cool climate elegance, and are much less ribald than their southern counterparts. Some Bordeaux varietals do well here, but the native xinomavro (“acid black”) is really where the action is at. Often called Greece’s nebbiolo, xinomavro finds its spiritual home in the appellation of Náoussa. It’s difficult to cultivate and persnickety, fiercely tannic and high in acid, but taming the beast has plenty of rewards. Its aromas evoke a well-loved kitchen: black pepper, plums, sun-dried tomato, olives, baking spices. It can age for eons; in fact it’s at its best after being tempered by time.

For an example that doesn’t require a decade, try the 2012 Kir-Yianni “Yianakohori Hills” ($17), which blends xinomavro with merlot and syrah for earlier approachability. Founder Yiannis Boutaris is from the Boutaris family, a winemaking group with roots that date back to the 19th century. Today, his son Stellios is at the helm. This bottle could use a decant, so open it up at least a half hour before you dig in.

Από το 1996 που πρωτοεμφιαλώθηκε η Ράμνιστα, μέχρι σήμερα που κυκλοφορεί ο τρύγος του 2012, έχουν περάσει αισίως 20 χρόνια και 16 εμφιαλώσεις της δημοφιλούς ετικέτας του κτήματος Κυρ Γιάννη. Και δράττομαι της ευκαιρίας, μιας πρόσφατης δοκιμής της τρέχουσας χρονιάς του 2012, την οποία απόλαυσα σε μια χαλαρή, χειμωνιάτικη βραδιά, για να θυμίσω ξανά, αφενός πως το κτήμα Κυρ Γιάννη έχει φτιάξει ένα θεσπέσιο, απαλό σα χάδι κρασί, με ασυναγώνιστη φινέτσα, συμπύκνωση και εκρηκτική δύναμη, που, χωρίς υπερβολή, είναι ικανό να σταθεί ανάμεσα στα μεγαλύτερα ερυθρά κρασιά παγκοσμίως…

Με την άφιξη, πριν από μερικές ημέρες, του wine bar του κτήματος Κυρ-Γιάννη στις… αναχωρήσεις του Ελ. Βενιζέλος η λέξη «flights» απέκτησε διττό νόημα.

Πολύ ωραία κίνηση του Στέλλιου Μπουτάρη το opening του «Kir-Yanni wine bar» στο επίπεδο αναχωρήσεων του διεθνούς αερολιμένα Αθηνών: εδώ και λίγες ημέρες μπορεί κανείς πριν από την εντός ή εκτός Ελλάδος πτήση του να καθίσει στα σταντ ή τα τραπέζια του, επιλέγοντας κάποιο κρασί από την οινική γκάμα του κτήματος Κυρ-Γιάννη –οι δώδεκα ετικέτες σερβίρονται σε ποτήρι και φιάλη, ενώ εκτός από τις τρέχουσες σοδειές έχετε τη δυνατότητα να επιλέξετε και δύο παλιότερες. Συνοδεύονται με τυριά και αλλαντικά, καθώς επίσης και με φάβα, ταραμοσαλάτα, γεμιστά με κους κους, χωριάτικη σε βαζάκι με κρίθινο παξιμάδι, μπρουσκέτες… Το εν λόγω wine bar, συνδεδεμένο με ένα από τα πιο αναγνωρίσιμα εγχώρια οινοπαραγωγικά ονόματα και τοποθετημένο σε σημείο που πιο πέρασμα δεν γίνεται, ανοίγει μια άλλου τύπου «πύλη» προς το εξωτερικό. Είναι ένας άμεσος τρόπος να συστήσει κανείς στους επισκέπτες τις γηγενείς ποικιλίες, και όχι μόνον αυτές. Οι τουρίστες θα φεύγουν έχοντας εκτός από σουβενίρ στις βαλίτσες τους και με τη γεύση του ελληνικού αμπελώνα στο στόμα. Μάθαμε δε και για «flights» (οινικές δοκιμές ) της Παράγκας, των διεθνών ποικιλιών του Κυρ-Γιάννη, των Ξινόμαυρων ή των κλασικών ετικετών του κτήματος, που κινούνται ακριβώς σ’ αυτό το κλίμα της ξενάγησης.
