From 15th to 17th February 2016 Kir-Yianni presented its wines at the 12th edition of Vinisud under the Mediterranean Expression Area of Μosaic. The Wine Mosaic project is an international non-profit organization for the preservation and promotion of original grape varieties of the Mediterranean.
Under the umbrella of our France importer Mavrommatis, Kir-Yianni’s presence targeted Xinomavro, the noble Greek red variety from the North. Visitors had the chance to taste our Xinomavros from both Amyndeon (Kali Riza PDO, Akakies rosé PDO) and Naoussa (Ramnista red PDO, Ktima red blend and Diaporos red single vineyard).
The session “The Mediterranean Burgundies: Xinomavro and Nerello Mascelese” on Tuesday 16 February was a great success, with high attendance numbers! The event showcased a comparison tasting of 4 iconic grape varieties including, besides Xinomavro, Carignan Blanc from Languedoc, Pinot Noir from Burgundy and Nerello Mascelese from Edna.
The Xinomavro tasting pointed on the expression of the grape in the two terroirs Kir-Yianni is active: The fruitier, elegant Amyndeon (Kali Riza 2013) and the complex, more vegetal Naoussa (Ramnista 2011). In addition, participants had the chance to taste the single vineyard Diaporos of 2012, as well as an older vintage of Ramnista from 2006.
