Stocks of two new items have been added to the inventory of Warehouse 10, all for the enjoyment of Kir-Yianni’s friends and fans.
The two new wine experiences are a Syrah PGI Imathia and a Goumenissa PDO, both labeled as ‘Single Vineyard’ and of the 2017 vintage.
The first new addition, Syrah 2017, is a mono-varietal made from Syrah vines that were planted at the Kir-Yianni Estate in 1987 to an area of 12 acres called ‘Block 2’.
The vines of the 34 years old vineyard are planted in a northern orientation and on calcium-carbonate-rich clay soil.
Their considerable age imparts a special concentration whist aging in oak barrels for 14 months further enriches the wine, deepens its colour and softens the tannins.
Syrah 2017 is an ideal match with grilled meats but the most adventurous fans of the variety will undoubtedly want to enjoy this wine on its own.
The second wine, Goumenissa 2017, is Kir-Yianni’s first Goumenissa PDO wine, marking the winery’s entry into a surprisingly up-and-coming winegrowing region.
Its Xinomavro grapes come exclusively from the vineyard ‘Bidabla’ – also known as High Hill – planted in 1996 to an area of 15 acres. The local Negoska variety is an integral part of any Goumenissa PDO blend and together with Xinomavro it contributes to this dry red wine’s pleasant and elegant characteristics, subtle tannins and freshness.
