Winter Pruning: The most important vineyard work

12.02.2019

According to tradition, the pruning starts at Kir-Yianni Estate on 1st of February. This day is the feast of Saint Trifonas, protector of viticulturists and farmers.

Pruning, the major winter vineyard work, is used to remove extraneous canes and to retain a small number of good ones. Hence, we bring off the preservation of plant-forming system, regulate the liveliness and consequently the production of the grape vine.

At Ktima Kir-Yianni in order to protect the grape vine from various diseases, we spray the pruning wounds with copper.

Winter pruning lasts till middle of March.
