Issued by the British Retail Consortium (UK), the BRC Certificate is an important asset for businesses that are exporting their products or seeking to penetrate more demanding markets with their goods.
It demonstrates that the certified producer meets the BRC Global Standards, which are legal food safety obligations that safeguard the highest level of consumer protection.
These fundamental, universally recognized standards define the requirements of food safety and quality management systems (a) in manufacturing, (b) storage and transport, and (c) packaging and packaging materials.
The BRC Global Standards cover food safety, legality and quality issues by providing the manufacturing company with a system to assess its level of compliance.
BRC for Food Safety was the first certification scheme to be recognized by the GFSI (Global Food Safety Institute) and is based on the principles of HACCP with a strong emphasis on good industrial and hygiene practice.
Companies that successfully obtain a BRC Global Standards Certificate prove through the rating system to themselves and their customers their level of compliance with the requirements of the standards of their food safety program and supply chain management.
